Everyone who has asked me about E7 has asked whether it is worth it. That is the wrong question to open with, and it is why the conversation usually goes badly. Worth it against what, bought by whom, replacing which lines on the existing agreement. Nobody has that to hand, so the meeting fills up with the brochure instead.
Start with what it is. E7 became generally available on 1 May 2026: E5 plus Microsoft 365 Copilot plus Microsoft Entra Suite plus Agent 365 in a single SKU, described by Microsoft as a strict superset of E5, at $99 per user per month paid yearly. There is a no-Teams variant at $90.45. Those are US list prices, so treat them as the shape of the deal rather than the number on your own paper.
Then three questions, in this order. First, what are you already paying for? The Copilot add-on is $30 per user per month paid yearly, Agent 365 on its own is $15, and anything you have already bought separately comes out of the comparison before it starts. Second, which of the Agent 365 features do you actually need? The registry and the basic governance actions are available on every Microsoft 365 Enterprise, Business, Education and F plan — inventory, publish, deploy, block, delete, reassign owner. What needs E7 or Agent 365 is the tier above: policy templates, observability and telemetry, tenant-wide control over which tools and MCP servers agents can reach, Graph API access to the registry, Conditional Access for agents.
Third, and this is the one that pays for the meeting, what are you about to buy twice? SharePoint Advanced Management is already included with the Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. It still turns up on purchase orders. The word doing the work in all the coverage is “superset”. It is accurate, and it is not an argument.
A superset is only a saving if you were going to buy the whole set.
